Aluminium: At present, there are five companies in India engaged in Aluminium processing: 

(i) Bharat Aluminium Company, Korba (Madhya Pradesh) and Ratnagiri (Maharashtra), 

(ii) Indian Aluminium Co, Heerakkud (Odisha), Alwaye (Kerala) and Belgaum (Karnataka), 

(iii) Hindustan Aluminium Co. Ltd.Renukoot (Uttar Pradesh), (iv) Madras Aluminium Co. Ltd. Mmettur (Tamil Nadu) and 

(v) Aluminium Corporation of India Ltd. Asansol (West Bengal). 

Automobiles: Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Burnmpur, Jamshedpur, Faridabad, Gurgaon (Maruti cars and van), Surajpur (Daewoo Cielo). 

Cement: Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Major Industries in India 

Chemicals: Delhi, Pimpri, Pune, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Rishikesh, Bengaluru and Amritsar. 

Cotton Textiles: Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. 

Copper Smelting: Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. 

Fertilizer: Durgapur, Kanpur, Haldia, Namrup, Rourkela, Vadodara, Barauni, Alwaye, Kota, Trombay, Visakhapatnam, Sindri, Nangal, Nevveli, Gorakpur, Kolkata, Kottayam, Bhatinda and Allahabad. 

Glass: Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka. 

Iron and Steel: Bhilai, Durgapur, Bokaro, IISCO Burnpur, TISCO Jamshedpur, MISL Bhadarvati. Three more steel plants have come up at Vishakhapatnam, Hospet (Vijaynagar) and Salem. 

Jute Textiles: India is the largest producer of jute manufacturers contributing 35% of the world’s total output. West Bengal accounts for overwhelming production. Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh contribute the rest.

Major Industries in India 

Leather: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh (Agra, Kanpur), Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore, Chennai), Maharashtra (Mumbai), Karnataka (Bengaluru), West Bengal (Kolkata). 

Locomotive: Chittaranjan, Jamshedpur, Varanasi. 

Man-made Fibres:  Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh are the major producers. Karnataka, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana are next in importance. 

Matches: Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. 

Paper: Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat, Odisha and Kerela.

Major Industries in India 

Pharmaceuticals: There are about 250 units in the organised sectors and about 5000 units in the small sector producing drugs. Some of these are at Rishikesh, Pimpri, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Baroda, Chennai, Kolkata, Kanpur. 

Railway Coaches: Perambur (Tamil Nadu), Kapurthala (Punjab). 

Silk Textiles: Karnataka is the premier silk-producing state contributing about 2/3rd of the country’s total output. Assam, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir together account for 31.54%. 

Sugar: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Maharashtra is the largest producer of sugar. 

Ship Building: Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Kochi (Kerala), Mumbai (Maharashtra), Kolkata (West Bengal), Jamnagar and Bhavnagar (Gujarat). 0 0 0
