National Song of India
The National Song of India is ‘Vande Mataram’ composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee on November 7, 1875. This song was first sung at the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress. It has been a source of inspiration to the people in their struggle for freedom. It was decided in the year 1937 that the first two stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ should be sung as National Song at national gatherings.
”Vande Mataram
Sujalanm suphalam malayaja shitalam
Shasyashyamalam Mataram!
Shubhra jyotsna-pulakita yaminim
Phullakusumita-drumadala shobhinim
Suhasinim sumadhura bhashinim,
Sukhadam varadam Mataram!
Trimshakotikantha-kalakala-ninada karale
Dvitrimshakoti bhujair dhrita-khara karavale
Abala kena ma eta bale!
Bahubaladharinim, namami tarinin,
Ripudalavarinim Mataram!
Tumi vidya, tumi dharma,
Tumi hridi, tumi marma,
Tvam hi pranah sharire!
Bahute tumi ma shakti
Hridaye tumi ma bhakti,
Tomari phratima gari mandire mandire!
Tvam he durga dashapraharana dharini,
Kamala, kamala-dala-viharini,
Vani vidyadayini namami tvam
Namami Kamalam amalam atulam,
Sujalam suphalam Mataram,
Vande Mataram!
Shyamalam, saralam, susmitam, bhushitam.
Dharinim, bharanim Mataram.” 0 0 0
