Thinking about the poem.

Ans. (i) ‘A Yellow wood’ means a wood the leaves of whose trees turned yellow in season.

(ii) ‘It was grassy and wanted wear’ refers to the road that the poet decided to walk on which was full of grass as fewer people travelled through the road.

(iii) ‘The passing there’ means going through the road that the poet decided to travel ahead.

(iv) ‘Leaves no steps had trodden black’ means that the leaves of trees laying on the road was trodden by no traveller.

(v) ‘how way leads on to way’ means one road leads to another road.

Q.3. Is there any difference between the two roads as the poet describes them?

(i) In stanzas two and three.

(ii) in the last two lines of the poem.

Ans. Yes, there is a difference between the two roads. The first one was much trodden and the other was covered with grass as it was trodden less.

(ii) In the last two lines of the poem the poet says that he had taken the less trodden road which made his life a difference.

Q.4. What do you think the last two lines of the poem mean? (Looking back, does the poet regret his choice or accept it?)

Ans. Between the two roads diverging in the yellow forest, the poet took the one that was less travelled. His choice made all the differences in his life. He did not regret his decision.
