Anthropological Survey of India: It conducts research to record and understand the bio-cultural diversities of Indian population and to serve as an information bank for national planning and development. It preserves and studies the ancient skeleton remains in the context of the bio-cultural history of the Indian population. It has headquartered at Kolkata.
Central Board of Film Certification: Films can be exhibited in India only after they have been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification. The Board has headquartered at Mumbai, with nine regional offices at Bangalore, Chennai, Cuttack, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkatta, Mumbai, New Delhi and Thiruvanthapuram. Producers apply to the Board and the Board examines the films and grants ‘U; Certificate for unrestricted public exhibition and an ‘A’ certificate for restriction to adults (above the age of 18 years). It may refuse the certificate if the film or any part of it is against the interest or security of the state, friendly relations with foreign states, public order, decency, mortality or involves defamation or contempt of Court or is to likely to incite the commission of an offence.

The Controller and Auditor General (CAG): The CAG of India is the guardian of public finances of the Union Government and it is his duty to see that money from the Consolidated Fund of Union and States are spent through proper authority. He is the impartial head of the audit and accounts system of India. He submits an annual report to the President in respect of Union accounts and to the Governors in respect of accounts of the States. The CAG of India is appointed by the President of India.

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR): CSIR is a major institution of scientific and industrial research under state auspices and supports research in universities and other learning centres. It maintains a register of scientists and technical personnel in the country.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO): DRDO is having with the principal responsibilities to design and develop new and sophisticated weapons and equipment based on the operational requirements, projected by the services, to provide help in their indigenous production and to render scientific advice to the three services (air, navy and army) as needed.

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII): FTII was set up in 1960 and it is located in Pune. It imparts training in the art and craft of film making. Traning in television was added in 1971. In-service training for the employees of Doordarshan is also imparted here. It offers a three-years specialisation course relating to the various aspects of films television programmes.

Indian Council for Historical Research: This council enunciates a national policy of historical research and encourages scientific writing of history. It operates research projects, offers fellowships and undertakes publication and translation work. Its headquarter is in New Delhi.
Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR): This commission was set up to review the progress of social science research from time to time, to give advice to its user in Government or outside, to sponsor research programmes and give grants to institutions and individuals for research in the field of social science. Its headquarter is in New Delhi.

Indhira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU): IGNOU caters to promote the open university and distance education in the country. It has 44 regional centres and 626 study units in the country. As per the estimate of 2001 nearly two lakhs, students were registered for its numerous academic programme. It was established in the year 1985.
Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI): The Industrial Bank of India co-ordinates the activities of other financial institutions to supplement their resources to plan and promote industries key significances to the industrial structure. The IDBI was established in July, 1,1964.

National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD): NABARD was set up in July 1982 for coordinating the activities of institutions engaged in rural finance and for augmenting the financial resources of these institutions. It has the function of acting as a refinancing institution for not only agriculture but also for agencies providing credit to small scale industries, cottage and village industries, artisans, craftsmen and other rural production units.

National Book Trust (NBT): NBT was set up as an autonomous organisation in 1957. It produces and encourages the production of good literature and makes it available at a low price to libraries and educational institutions. It organises World Book Fairs, National Book Fairs, etc.

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT): The National Council of Educational Research and Training is the principal agency for academic advice to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, in matters pertaining to the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes for the qualitative improvement of school education. It is mainly engaged in research, development, training extension and has provided support to the implementation of the 10+2+3 pattern of education. It also produces textbooks in almost all the subjects for the entire school stage (classes I to XII). It was established in the year 1981.

National Development Council (NDC): NDC was set up in 1952 with a view to strengthening and mobilising the efforts and resources of the nation in support of plan promoting common economic policies in vital spheres and ensuring balanced and rapid development in all parts of the country. Since 1967, all members of the Union Cabinet, Chief Ministers of States and Administrators of Union Territories and members of the Planning Commission have been members of the Council.

National Film Festival: Instituted in 1953, it aims at promoting India’s film art by acknowledging outstanding achievements in 28 categories of film art and film making. This includes an award on the best book on cinema instituted in 1982 for the first time.
National Sample Survey Organisation: It was set up in 1950 with a programme of conducting large scale surveys to provide data for estimation of national income and related aggregates especially relating to unorganised sector of economy and planning and policy formulation. As a major fact-finding body, the organisation occupies a unique position in the nation’s statistical system. Over the year, it has enlarged and diversified the date base especially in areas which are vital for development planning.

National School of Drama: Set up in 1959, it imparts training in dramatic art leading 3-year diploma. With its headquarter in New Delhi, the School is fully financed by the Government of India.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI): Established in 1953, the RBI is the Central Bank of India. Its main function is to regulate the issue of banknotes and keep reserves for securing monetary stability. The bank is the sole authority for the issue of currency in India.
Zoological Survey of India (ZSI): Established in 1916, the ZSI carries out studies in diverse fields of animal taxonomy and investigations related to agriculture forestry, fisheries and public health and hygiene. 0 0 0
