National Flag of India

The National Flag of India is a horizontal tricolour of deep saffron at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportion. In the centre of a white band is a wheel, in navy blue, which represent the Chakra. 

The design of the Chakra is that of the wheel which appears on the abacus of the Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath. It has 24 spokes. The ratio of the width of the flag is 2:3.

The design of the flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on July 22, 1947.

The colour saffron represents courage and sacrifice. The colour white represents peace and truth. The colour green represents faith and chivalry. The wheel represents dharma (religion). 0 0 0
