2008 –– Abhinav Bindra became the first Indian to win an individual gold medal in the Olympics in Beijing.
2009 –– The 15th General Elections were held and Dr Manmohan Singh was re-appointed as Prime Minister of India. Smt. Meira Kumari became the first female Speaker of Lok Sabha.
2010 –– President of the US Barack Obama paid his maiden visit to India. 2010 Commonwealth Games were successfully held in New Delhi, India; S.H. Kadapia became the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India.
2011 –– Lokpal Bill was introduced in the Parliament for debate to bring an effective anti-corruption law into force; India won the 2011 ICC World Cup Cricket tournament; India lost many of its legendary figures like Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Indira Goswami, Deev Anand, Jagjit Singh, M.F. Hussain, M.A.K. Pataudi etc.
